CHAPTER 01 2019 — WHERE IT BEGAN

A Single Notebook Changed How We Teach

In late 2019, a tutor in South Timport noticed something uncomfortable: learners who completed courses still couldn't apply what they'd learned. Completion certificates piled up. Confidence didn't. The gap between "finishing" and "understanding" was enormous — and nobody was measuring it.

That tutor started a notebook. Every session, she wrote down the exact moment a learner's eyes changed — the instant comprehension landed. She mapped those moments. Found patterns. Built a framework around them. That notebook became the foundation of Precision Course Focus.

I enrolled in three online programmes before finding Precision Course Focus. The difference? They didn't just teach me content — they taught me when I'd actually understood it. That self-awareness changed everything. — D. Kavanagh, Data Analytics Graduate, Cohort 2022
CHAPTER 02 2021 — THE TURNING POINT

From Notebook to System

By 2021, the notebook had grown into a structured diagnostic. We identified six distinct comprehension thresholds that learners pass through — not in a straight line, but in a spiral. Each loop deepens understanding. We stopped designing courses as linear tracks and started designing them as layered spirals.

ThresholdWhat HappensHow We Measure It
RecognitionLearner identifies concepts in contextScenario-matching exercises
ArticulationLearner explains concepts in own wordsPeer-teaching sessions
ApplicationLearner uses concepts in novel situationsLive case challenges
CritiqueLearner questions and refines understandingStructured debate protocols
IntegrationLearner connects concepts across domainsCross-module synthesis tasks
AutonomyLearner generates new approaches independentlyCapstone self-directed project

This framework — the Spiral Threshold Model — is what makes our courses different. Every module, every exercise, every assessment maps to a specific threshold.

Cohort 7 — Threshold mapping workshop

The spiral model made me realise I'd been confusing memorisation with understanding for years. By the third loop through the material, I wasn't just recalling — I was building. — R. Ó Briain, Business Strategy, Cohort 2023
Completion-to-competence ratio:
Traditional courses: ~31% of completers demonstrate applied skill
Our spiral courses: ~78% demonstrate applied skill within 60 days
CHAPTER 03 2023 — METHOD REFINED

How a Precision Course Actually Works

Each programme runs in 5-week cycles. Not semesters. Not self-paced-forever. Five weeks of focused, structured progression with built-in diagnostic checkpoints.

WK 1
Orientation Spiral
Diagnostic assessment. Learner maps current threshold position. Personalised spiral entry point assigned.
WK 2–3
Deep Loop
Core content delivered through scenario-based modules. Peer sessions twice weekly. First threshold checkpoint at end of Week 3.
WK 4
Integration Sprint
Cross-domain challenge. Learners apply concepts outside original context. Second threshold checkpoint.
WK 5
Capstone & Calibration
Self-directed project. Final threshold mapping. Learner receives a Threshold Profile — not just a certificate.

What Learners Actually Leave With

Threshold Profile

A detailed map of where you sit across all six comprehension thresholds. Not a pass/fail — a diagnostic portrait of your learning.

Applied Portfolio

Real work produced during integration sprints and capstones. Evidence of competence, not just attendance.

Peer Network

Access to cohort alumni and structured peer-review partnerships that extend beyond the programme.

CHAPTER 04 CURRENT — ACTIVE PROGRAMMES

Course Map — Active Spirals

We run a focused catalogue. Breadth is not the goal — depth is. Each programme has been refined across multiple cohorts.

Answer two questions. We'll suggest where to start.

1. When you encounter a new concept, what's your first instinct?

2. What frustrates you most about courses you've taken?

CHAPTER 05 2024–2025 — EVIDENCE

Voices from the Spiral

I came in thinking I was at the Application threshold. The diagnostic showed I was still at Articulation. Humbling — but accurate. By Week 5, I'd genuinely reached Integration for the first time. — T. Brennan, Systems Thinking, Cohort 2024
The peer-teaching sessions were uncomfortable at first. Then I realised: if I couldn't teach it, I hadn't learned it. That single principle restructured how I approach everything. — M. Gallagher, Strategic Communication, Cohort 2023
My employer sent me to three certification programmes. None of them gave me what five weeks at Precision Course Focus did: the ability to actually think with the material, not just recall it. — S. Noonan, Data Reasoning, Cohort 2025

Frequently Surfaced Questions

Do I need prior qualifications to enrol?
No formal qualifications are required. The diagnostic assessment at the start of each programme determines your entry threshold. We care about where you actually are, not what certificates you hold.
What if I don't reach the next threshold in five weeks?
That's perfectly fine. The Threshold Profile you receive at the end shows exactly where you are and what the next spiral would focus on. Many learners repeat a spiral at a deeper level — that's how the model is designed to work.
Are courses delivered online or in person?
Most programmes are delivered in a hybrid format: asynchronous content modules combined with two live sessions per week (held via video call). Peer-teaching sessions can be conducted in person if cohort members are local to South Timport.
How much does a programme cost?
Pricing varies by programme and cohort size. Contact us directly for current rates. We offer a deferred-payment option for learners who complete the full spiral and capstone project.
Can my employer sponsor my enrolment?
Yes. We provide employer-facing documentation including learning outcomes, threshold mapping, and applied portfolio evidence. Many organisations use our programmes as part of professional development budgets.
